We met Akbar Anderson - independent clothing designer, photographer, barber, and father - through our friend, and his mentor in photography, Richard R Ross. Richard told us about Akbar's lenswork and what he was sitting on in his contact sheet archives. We found that he had spent some time with members of the infamous Harlem NYC collective, The Diplomats, specifically with Juelz Santana and his mother. It just so happened that Akbar's custom made soft goods - a range of embroidered and silkscreened clothing such as jerseys and t-shirts - were a central focus at the Santana's Town shop, uptown on Amsterdam between "49th & 50th." It also happened that Akbar kept his camera with him.

In the tradition of photographic documents, this book archives much of Akbar's time with Juelz and the rest of the Dipset crew, as well as how his soft good creative helped shape the most recognized visual language of a movement which burst outward from the blocks of Harlem.
